Creating a Term Paper is always a Challenge
Obstacles
There are many, many obstacles you might face while writing the term paper. Don’t be taken by surprise by the most common ones. Acknowledge the existence of said obstacles; and, prepare to face each of them down on their own terms. Face the challenges with confidence and the knowledge you need to get ahead; and never be afraid to ask for assistance. Creating your paper can be a daunting task. So please, be prepared for the worst… but always expect the best.
Here are some of the more common challenges or obstacles you might face when setting off to writing:
- Forgetting the purpose
- Jumping in headfirst
- Perfectionist Grammar
- Silence
Your term paper should reflect your ability to organize ideas and think clearly. Take good notes and ask as many questions as you need to in order to make your task clear and comprehensible. Do not overanalyze or get too caught up in technical details. Show you instructor that you know how to present a decent argument. Keep the purpose of your assignment in mind so your objectives are simple to achieve.
Some writers make the common mistake of jumping into the deep water headfirst. That is, they want to write the final draft the minute they sit down at the keyboard. But good writing takes patience, practice, and a little bit of finesse. Work the assignment in small sections. Remember that getting to the final draft is a process that demands the very best of you. It might take five hours or several weeks to develop a good working thesis. Slow down and take your time. In this way, you will avoid mistakes.
Proper use of language and its various symbols is important. The challenge here is to avoid spending countless hours tweaking your spelling and punctuation and the like. There are more important things to consider and bigger fish to fry. For your first draft, just write down your ideas as they come. You can always take care of minor details later. On the other hand, be sure to proofread carefully when it comes to the development of your final draft.
Instructors have the answers you are looking for. Do not be afraid to ask questions and to ask for honest feedback from your instructor. Often times, students will avoid asking questions because they do not want to appear to be lost. But often times, you need someone to guide you through some of the challenges of the paper. Schedule an appointment outside of class to meet with your instructor. He or she will be happy to assist you, especially when they see how motivated you are.
The challenges and obstacles are many when it comes to writing a term paper. Most can be overcome. Give yourself enough time; and, maintain a good attitude… You can do it.
